Step 1: With vehicle safely lifted we proceeded to remove the factory left and right rear mufflers. The factory mufflers are the typical stamped steel, clamshell design with crimped seams. This is typical of most factory exhaust systems. Taking a quick look we instantly know this would not be a difficult task. The factory rear mufflers were bolted to the mid section with 2 bolt flanges (blue circles in diagram) using dual taper steel sealing rings. To avoid making any modification to the vehicle Supersprint insists on using the factory style flanges and seal rings, along with factory hanger and attachment points (red circles in diagram).
Step 2: In the case of the MZ4 system Supersprint included 2 adapters that matched the factory attachment, which would then slip, fit over the Supersprint muffler inlet pipe. This system offered us added front to rear adjustment to accommodate even the slightest difference in vehicle variations. We then loosely fitted the adapters over the muffler inlets and attached the complete assembly to the hangers. Once in position we added the steel seal rings and the 2 factory bolt assemblies. With everything still loose we centered the mufflers to the tail pipe openings of the vehicles. This requires a little time since you have a left and right muffler that needs to line up as a matched set.
Step 3: Once everything is centered up, we tightened the flanges and slip joints. Next comes the fun part! The road test and the sound clip recording.
