The e39s have 2 cabin air filters and should be replaced at the same time.

Undo bracket holding the cabin air filter housing cover and remove cover
|
|
|
Remove old cabin air filter noting the position of the air filter
|
|
Wipe out any excess dirt or debris in the cabin air filter housing that may have fallen off when removing the old filter.
Replace with new Micron Standard or Carbon Cabin Air Filter making sure the position is the same as the old filter that you removed.
Secure bracket holding cabin air filter housing cover
Repeat steps for 2nd filter
Enjoy a more powerful A/C and breathe better
