BMW E46 3 Series Brake Job325i 328i 330i Rotor, Pad, and Sensor ReplacementTo Start this Project you need to have the side of the vehicle that you will be working on off the ground and the wheel removed and off to the side. ![]() The two caliper slider bolts must now be removed. ![]() Up next is the removal of the caliper anti-vibration clip using a flat-head screw driver. (Be careful the clip will pop off towards you) ![]() The caliper is now ready to be slid off of the bracket and rotor, we used a bungie cord to suspend the caliper without damaging the brake line. ![]() Once the caliper is out of the way we removed the two bolts attaching the caliper bracket to the hub assembly. ![]() The slider grooves on the bracket will need to be cleaned up using carberator or brake cleaner. ![]() Now the rotor locator bolt can be removed and the rotor pulled off the hub, this may take some force if the rotor is rusted on to the hub. We would then suggest using a rubber mallet to help free the rotor from the hub. ![]() Once the rotor is removed it is a good idea to clean up the hub using carberator or brake cleaner along with a small piece of emory cloth or sand paper. ![]() Once the hub is clean and dry, an anti-seize compound should be added to the lip of the hub assembly to ensure that the rotor will not rust to the hub. ![]() The rotor may now be reinstalled in the correct orientation with the new rotor locator bolt. ![]() With the rotor installed the caliper bracket is reinstalled. ![]() Since the caliper bracket has been cleaned we will now apply some anti-seize compond to the slider grooves. Make sure not to get any anti-seize on the rotor itself, if you do simply wipe it off. ![]() with the old brake pads removed from the caliper we must now use a large wrence to compress the piston back flush into the caliper housing. ![]() We then reccommend adding a generous amount of an anti-squeak compond to the backing plates of the pads ![]() with the outer pad simply slid into place as can be seen in the previous picture, we now clip the inner pad into the caliper piston. ![]() With both pads in place it is now time to slide the caliper over the rotor and outer pad and into the bracket. ![]() Now to reinstall the slider bolts the caliper may need to be gigled around a bit to lline up the bolts to the bracket. ![]() Once the sloder bolts have been tightened, the anti-vibration clip can be reinstalled. ![]() LAst but not least the new brake sensor can be cliped into place, and the wheel reinstalled. ![]() Click Here to view brake components for your vehicle. |
